Water disinfection with geopolymer–bentonite composite foam containing silver nanoparticles

چکیده

• Water disinfection with geopolymer composite foam is reported for the first time. Geopolymer and Ag 0 -bentonite formed matrix dispersed phases, respectively. Disinfection efficiency against E. coli enterococci was promising ?1 d. Leaching of Na, Al, Si, Ag, pH remained within drinking water guideline values. Geopolymers resemble conventional ceramics but can be manufactured at near-ambient temperatures. In this work, geopolymer–bentonite silver nanoparticles prepared applied disinfection, inspired by point-of-use ceramic filters. The inactivation Escherichia intestinal bacteria found to (0.6–2.4 0.3–1.4 log 10 reductions, respectively) However, somatic coliphage viruses poor (<0.05 ). did not alter chemical quality. Thus, concentrations Na in compliance values, showed no physical disintegration. These results provide preliminary proof concept suitability composites disinfection.

A new silver based composite material for SPA water disinfection.

A new composite material based on alumina (Al2O3) modified by two surface nanocoatings - titanium dioxide (TiO2) and silver (Ag) - was studied for spa water disinfection. Regarding the most common microorganisms in bathing waters, two non-pathogenic bacteria Escherichia coli (Gram-negative) and Staphylococcus epidermidis (Gram positive) were selected as surrogates for bacterial contamination. T...

Plasma treated activated carbon impregnated with silver nanoparticles for improved antibacterial effect in water disinfection

A strategy to selectively attach more Ag nanoparticles on the external surface of activated carbon (AC) is being proposed and used as an antibacterial medium for water disinfection. Ag nanoparticles were first synthesized under UV irradiation by reducing silver nitrate with sodium citrate; the latter serving the dual purpose of both a reducing and a capping agent. Transmission electron microgra...

Biogenic silver for disinfection of water contaminated with viruses.

The presence of enteric viruses in drinking water is a potential health risk. Growing interest has arisen in nanometals for water disinfection, in particular the use of silver-based nanotechnology. In this study, Lactobacillus fermentum served as a reducing agent and bacterial carrier matrix for zerovalent silver nanoparticles, referred to as biogenic Ag(0). The antiviral action of biogenic Ag(...

Pesticide Mineralization in Water Using Silver Nanoparticles Incorporated on Polyurethane Foam

In present day scenario, pesticides are widely used for pest control in agriculture, because of which, the drinking water sources (both surface and ground water) gets contaminated. Majority of the pesticides are defiant to biodegradation and are found to be carcinogenic in nature even at trace levels. Various conventional methods employed for removal of pesticide are surface adsorption, photo-c...
